About the Role:
Mitacs is seeking a dynamic and results-driven individual to join our team as a Service Design Specialist. In this role, you will use your analytical expertise and client-centric strategies to implement new practices, optimize processes, and uncover business insights. Working collaboratively across teams, you will play a crucial role in making data-informed decisions and delivering seamless, impactful experiences for our clients. This position focuses on designing holistic service interactions across all touchpoints of a customer’s experience, both externally and internally. You will work cross-functionally to solve client and user challenges and support the delivery of services (both online and offline) based on user research and business strategies.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Service Design and Implementation
– Apply human-centered design principles to develop innovative and intuitive solutions for clients.
– Support the development of frameworks for service delivery needs (e.g., customer/user journeys, service blueprints, ecosystem maps).
– Actively design end-to-end service experiences in collaboration with the lead Service Design Advisor.
– Work with industry experts to continuously improve our service design methods and outcomes.
– Implement design vision, strategy, principles, process, and systems to guide the development of Mitacs services.
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate user insights into actionable design recommendations and strategies.
– Ensure seamless integration of user-centered design principles.
– Shape experiences that transform customers into advocates by understanding the broader user journey and creating accessible, understandable, actionable, and engaging content.
– Continuously monitor performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
– Contribute to the evolution and iteration of the design system.
Project Management/Coordination
– Coordinate project needs to meet operational objectives and report and track progress accordingly.
– Support change and communications plans in collaboration with the transformation management office.
– Communicate project progress, results, and risks through relevant channels.
Maintaining Best Practices
– Stay updated on the latest trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in human-centered design and performance tracking.
– Incorporate management of experience philosophy into all service offerings and programmatic design discussions.
– Share knowledge and data insights with the team to continuously improve design processes and methodologies.
Skills:
– Minimum of 2 years of experience as a service designer (or similar role) designing and improving products, services, and business models.
– Experience in design thinking, user research, journey mapping, persona building, usability testing, prototype building, accessibility testing, and data-driven design.
– Embraces continuous testing, improvement, and learning.
– Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate agility and flexibility.
– Strong facilitation skills, both verbal and written.
– Project management/coordination experience is an asset.
– Service Design Certification is an asset.
– Lean Six Sigma is an asset.
– Proficient in written and spoken English.
