Position: Senior Software Engineering Manager
Are you a seasoned software engineering professional looking for an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in the automotive industry? Cars Commerce is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to join our team and lead the Inventory Services Team. As a key member of our Core Services division, you will play a crucial role in unifying the car-buying journey on our data-driven platform.
Responsibilities:
– Lead autonomous teams responsible for high-throughput, API-first services built in Elixir/Phoenix and deployed on AWS EKS.
– Collaborate closely with Product leadership to translate business goals into a measurable roadmap.
– Advocate for best practices in engineering, including observability, security, and on-call health.
– Serve as incident commander and ensure production reliability for your domain.
– Influence platform architecture and facilitate cross-domain integrations to drive new revenue streams.
– Help set the technical direction for the organization.
Qualifications:
– 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
– Proven track record of successfully shipping and operating business-critical backend services at scale.
– Strong background in cloud-native architectures (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes/EKS), event-driven and API-driven systems.
– Skilled in coaching and providing feedback to senior/staff engineers, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive and inclusive culture.
– Comfortable working with OKRs, making scope and risk trade-offs, and communicating decisions to executives and cross-functional teams.
– Familiar with incident management best practices, observability tools (such as DataDog), vulnerability remediation, and DevSecOps pipelines.
– Able to effectively communicate technical and non-technical information to engineers, product managers, and executives.
Requirements:
– Demonstrated ability to plan increments, forecast capacity, and use tools like Jira, DORA, and DX metrics to drive predictable outcomes and continuous improvement.
– Experience with Elixir/Phoenix, automotive-retail data pipelines, or leading platform modernization initiatives is a plus.
