Senior Product Designer at Toast: Revolutionizing the Restaurant Industry

We are now expanding our platform to retail locations and are seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our team. Our retail division works with innovative concepts such as wine bars, markets, pizzerias, liquor stores, and board game cafes. Led by two startup founders, we value rapid feedback and customer input throughout the product development process. As a motivated engineer, you will have the opportunity to help build this new product from the ground up.

About the Role:

We are looking for a talented Senior Product Designer to drive the evolution of Toast’s supplier, purchasing, inventory, and product catalog experience. Our retail product serves the unique needs of hybrid customers, as well as convenience stores, bottle shops, and grocery stores. Working closely with cross-functional partners, other designers, product managers, and engineers, you will help create a next-generation Toast Product Catalog that is user-friendly, intuitive, and delightful to use. Our team is passionate about maintaining consistency and integrity in our current product while also focusing on experimentation, testing, and iteration for future product experiences. This role is 100% remote, with a preference for candidates near Boston.

Key Responsibilities:

– Lead the solution of a product area, crafting compelling visual experiences and connecting them to the broader product vision
– Leverage AI tools to aid in the product design process, differentiating between AI hype and practical integration into the product
– Utilize a strong understanding of UX principles and best practices for both web and native mobile applications
– Familiarity with platform-specific UX and UI patterns
– Ability to work on undefined projects, gather necessary information, and begin preliminary work
– Excellent communication skills and proactive mindset for sharing work early and often
– Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or other similar software
– Ability to work efficiently in design software, maintain clean files, and deliver final UI designs in a pixel-perfect manner for handoff to developers or AI prototyping tools
– Take feedback constructively and pivot quickly if necessary
– Understand and empathize with users to design digital experiences that are both delightful and efficient
– Familiarity with corporate design systems and the ability to push beyond when necessary
– Willingness to engage with customers, gather feedback, and generate ideas to advance product features

Desired Skills and Experience:

– 3-5 years of experience with a proven ability to lead the solution of a product area and craft compelling visual experiences
– Experience with AI tools in the product design process
– Solid understanding of UX principles and best practices for web and mobile applications
– Familiarity with platform-specific UX and UI patterns
– Ability to work on undefined projects and gather necessary information
– Excellent communication skills and proactive mindset for sharing work
– Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, or other design tools
– Ability to work efficiently and deliver final UI designs in a pixel-perfect manner
– Willingness to take feedback constructively and pivot quickly if necessary
– Empathy towards users and the ability to design digital experiences that delight and make their workflows easier
– Familiarity with corporate design systems and the ability to push beyond when necessary

Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves:

– Experience creating and maintaining design systems
– Figma prototyping and Figma Make skills
– Animation skills using Adobe After Effects and LottieFiles
– Ability to read HTML/CSS code
– Prior startup or zero-to-one experience
