Position: Senior Data Engineer

Position Overview:
As a Senior Data Engineer at Velir, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our internal capabilities to effectively manage and leverage client data. Working closely with functional leadership and data solutions team members, you will identify and develop data engineering solutions to meet our clients’ business needs and requirements.
Responsibilities:
– Lead and oversee various data engineering projects for our data solutions engagements, bridging technical gaps and utilizing advanced data engineering knowledge and expertise.
– Collaborate with different teams to ensure alignment and translate context effectively.
– Ensure large and complex engineering projects are delivered in alignment with desired business outcomes.
– Serve as a mentor to data solutions team members, data engineering managers, and other data engineers.
– Optimize data pipelines for low latency and timely processing and delivery of data.
– Act as an internal resource for data warehousing, providing help with advanced techniques and strategies.
– Possess strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience in Scala and Rust being a plus.
– Deep understanding of data warehousing and ETL/ELT processes.
– Proficiency with common data integration/orchestration platforms (e.g. Fivetran, Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow).
– Experience with at least one cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, etc.).
– Familiarity with streaming solutions such as Spark Streaming, Kafka, or Flink is desirable.
– Strong experience with at least one cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
– Knowledge of machine learning operations (MLOps) techniques and platforms is a plus.
– Mentor and advise other engineers.
– Ability to define, explain, and sell a long-term vision for technical architecture and approaches.
– Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Technical Skills:
– Data Movement: Optimize data pipelines to achieve low latency and timely processing and delivery of data.
– Data Warehousing: Act as an internal resource for data warehousing, providing help with advanced techniques and strategies.
– Programming: Possess an authoritative or deep holistic understanding, able to go beyond existing interpretations.
– Technical Management: Be a technical leader across a set of related team domains, consistently pushing boundaries and exploring gaps in understanding.
– Data Infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain the underlying data infrastructure for a complex, large-scale system that integrates with multiple disparate data sources.
– Bonus points for: Data Modeling and Transformation, MLOps.
Skills and Qualifications:
– Proven experience as a Data Engineer or related role, with a focus on designing and developing data pipelines.
– Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience in Scala and Rust being a plus.

Compensation Range: $140,000-$155,000 annually. Please note that compensation packages are finalized after the interview process is concluded. We use a competency-based approach to base pay, which means it is based on the competencies and skills demonstrated for this role.
