Position: Risk Analytics Wrangler at Automattic

Position Overview:
As a member of the Risk Operations team, you will work closely with support, product, engineering, and data teams to ensure the security of our solutions and provide a safe platform for businesses to operate. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate directly with customers to address any risk-related concerns.
Key Responsibilities:
– Develop and document data-driven processes for risk management across all our products, with a focus on WooPayments.
– Lead projects to expand data sources and improve fraud detection in both Merchant Risk and Transaction Risk domains.
– Create and test rules for fraud prevention in internal and third-party tools, and work with teams to implement them in manual review workflows.
– Conduct analysis and research on current and historical data to inform risk management decisions and minimize fraud losses.
– Provide regular reports on current trends in risk domains and the impact of Risk Operations’ work. Develop business intelligence dashboards to guide decision-making.
– Support the Risk Operations Manager in developing the risk platform.
– Stay informed about the latest fraud and risk trends by actively reviewing customer accounts, collaborating with Fraud Analysts, and staying up-to-date through ongoing education.
– Partner with cross-functional teams and external partners to identify key insights and drive effective decision-making.
Experience and Qualifications:
– Strong research and investigative skills with a curious and methodical approach to work.
– Proficiency in SQL and business intelligence tools to analyze data and identify opportunities for improvement in risk management.
– Experience in identifying vulnerabilities and opportunities in a large pool of data and implementing effective solutions.
– At least 3 years of experience in strategic, analytical, and operational roles, with a track record of translating business problems related to fraud and risk into actionable solutions.
– Knowledge of risk, fraud, and payments/ecommerce is preferred, with the ability to evaluate customers and scenarios for potential risk and make informed decisions.
– Familiarity with WordPress, WooCommerce, and Akismet is highly desirable.
– Experience with dashboards and/or business intelligence reporting tools, such as Looker or Spreadsheet.
– Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
– Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to manage priorities and work independently.
– Salary range: $85,000-$110,000 USD. Please note that salary ranges are global and paid in local currency, reflecting the potential contribution and impact of the candidate.
