The Nuclear Company, a rapidly growing startup in the nuclear and energy sector, is seeking a visionary and experienced Principal Data Engineer to join our team. As our Principal Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and optimizing our data infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making across all aspects of our business.
Reporting to the VP of Software Engineering, you will lead the development and management of our end-to-end data architecture, including data warehousing, data lakes, real-time streaming, and batch processing solutions. You will also be responsible for defining data governance strategies, evaluating new data technologies, and ensuring data security and compliance with industry regulations. This role requires deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a strong commitment to data integrity and security.
Key Responsibilities:
– Design and implement our end-to-end data architecture, including data warehousing, data lakes, and real-time streaming solutions
– Define data governance strategies and best practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance
– Evaluate and recommend new data technologies to support business needs and growth
– Design and optimize scalable and reliable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load diverse datasets
– Implement data validation and monitoring mechanisms to ensure data quality and pipeline health
– Oversee the management and maintenance of our cloud-based data platforms
– Develop and implement data security protocols and access controls to protect sensitive nuclear-related data
– Serve as a technical mentor and leader for other engineers
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver actionable insights
– Ensure data infrastructure meets stringent industry standards for cybersecurity and regulatory compliance
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field
– 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on building scalable data pipelines and platforms
– Proven experience in a lead or principal data engineering role
– Expertise in cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
– Proficiency in big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery)
– Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java
– Experience with SQL and various relational and NoSQL databases
– Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and metadata management
– Understanding of data security best practices

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $198,000 – $228,000 annually, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors such as experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria determined by the company.
