Position: Principal Architect, Heroku
Role Summary:
Heroku is seeking a talented and experienced Principal Architect to lead the architecture strategy for our AI platform as a service (AI PaaS). As the Principal Architect, you will work closely with product and engineering teams, as well as customers and internal stakeholders, to develop and drive the architecture strategy for Heroku. This role will also involve engaging with customers to understand their architecture requirements and validating architecture decisions. Additionally, you will be responsible for enabling our organization around our platform and product technologies, with a focus on highlighting Heroku’s capabilities and ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development and execution of Heroku’s architecture strategy, with a particular focus on expanding its capabilities as an AI PaaS.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams, as well as customers and internal stakeholders, to ensure that the architecture strategy aligns with business objectives.
• Serve as the primary voice and steward of the architecture strategy, communicating decisions and tradeoffs to internal and external stakeholders.
• Engage with customers to validate architecture decisions and understand their architecture requirements, particularly in regards to deployment and scaling on Heroku.
• Partner with Support, Sales Engineering, and Customer Success teams to enable the organization on our platform and product technologies, with a focus on showcasing Heroku’s capabilities and ecosystem.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in platform architecture (SaaS, PaaS), with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrable experience and interest in architecting complex and scalable platforms, with expert level knowledge of relevant architecture and design principles.
• Experience delivering cloud-native capabilities, with hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on Heroku. Experience with integrations, automations, and API management is a plus.
• Proven experience and desire to lead, with experience leading cross-functional architecture teams.
• Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to partner and consult with senior leaders and C-level roles.
Requirements:
• In-depth understanding of integrations, automations, and full life cycle API management, with a focus on implementation and management within a PaaS environment like Heroku.
• Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and environments (public/private), particularly the architecture of platforms like Heroku. Ability to lead the team through technical challenges in implementation.
• Broad working knowledge of the latest advancements in cloud computing infrastructure, including IaaS, PaaS (with a focus on Heroku’s capabilities), containers, analytics, data center deployments, and others.
