Design ManagerPosition: Design Manager (Owner’s Representative / Architect)
Location: Remote – Los Angeles / Southern California Region
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to join our team. As the Design Manager, you will play a crucial role in the envisioning and design management of large, complex construction projects. You will work closely with project leadership to plan, evaluate, and oversee the planning, programming, and design work to ensure successful project delivery that meets the client’s goals and objectives. This is a remote position based in the Los Angeles/Southern California region.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the execution of services for complex projects, including visioning sessions, stakeholder workshops, test-fitting, feasibility studies, conceptual design, programming, master planning, architect and contractor procurement, and design management.
• Foster a collaborative environment with peers and project teams.
• Maintain positive and trusted relationships with clients, consultants, architects, and contractors.
• Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders to ensure a common understanding of project status, progress, and expectations.
• Assist project leadership in meeting the client’s vision and ensuring positive outcomes for our clients and their construction projects.
• Ensure optimal performance on assigned projects and maintain proper controls.
• Report on progress and adhere to established cost, schedule, and quality standards.
• Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
• Support leadership in business development proposal response and interview activities.
• Collaborate with leadership to facilitate client workshops, develop relevant content, and document findings.
• Assist in the development of Comprehensive Implementation Plans in collaboration with leadership to guide future design and construction teams.
• Act as an agent of the owner and assist in managing the design and construction teams to stay aligned with the original vision or implementation plan.
• Keep project leadership and the owner informed of project progress and work with team members and stakeholders to address any issues and realign with the original comprehensive implementation plan.
• Provide Design Management by working with the project design team to finalize and manage the design process.
• Attend design meetings and maintain meeting minutes to ensure contract accountability.
• Attend field walks and mock-up reviews to ensure the project meets the owner’s expectations for quality and craftsmanship.
• Travel to project sites, client offices, and MSI offices as needed, up to 25% of the time.
Required Qualifications:
• NCARB accredited bachelor’s degree in architecture and a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a practicing architect involved in planning, design, and construction.
• Registered Architect in the State of California and active license desired.
• Other industry accreditations or certifications such as LEED AP, DBIA, PMP, or CCM desired.
• Experience in all phases of work required.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to work independently or in a group setting.
• Client-focused and detail-oriented.
• Ability to effectively communicate with and brief leaders.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
• Familiarity with design software such as Rhino, Enscape, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam Revu.
• Strong proposal development, support, and writing skills.
