Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to lead our mobile app development for both iOS (Swift) and React Native. In this role, you will set the technical direction, design and build reusable component libraries, and ensure high quality, performance, and accessibility standards. Additionally, you will champion AI-assisted engineering to accelerate development and integrate AI-powered visualizations to aid clinicians and patients in understanding complex brain health data. This cross-functional role is crucial to our mission and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact.
Responsibilities:
– Lead the mobile architecture for iOS (Swift/SwiftUI/UIKit) and React Native, with a focus on modularity, performance, security, and observability
– Develop and maintain reusable mobile component libraries, including design-system alignment, theming, accessibility, localization, and dark mode
– Integrate AI-enabled features that visually display insights (such as charts, plots, and progressions) in a responsible manner, adhering to privacy-by-design principles and ensuring auditable outputs
– Set high engineering standards for testing (unit/snapshot/e2e), CI/CD for mobile, OTA strategies, release automation, crash analytics, and telemetry
– Mentor and support team members, driving clear design documentation, ADRs, and code reviews, and collaborating closely with Product, Design, Data Science/Medical, and Security teams
– Lead cross-team initiatives focused on performance, reliability, offline/edge patterns, network/data sync, app startup time, and bundle size reduction
– Promote AI-assisted workflows to increase delivery speed and quality, utilizing intentional prompts, verification practices, and secure usage guidelines
– Collaborate with Data Science/Medical teams to safely and clearly integrate model outputs into the UI, including uncertainty and context visualization
Requirements:
– 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in mobile development
– 5+ years of experience building and shipping iOS apps in Swift
– 3+ years of experience with React Native at scale
– Expertise in Swift/SwiftUI (and/or UIKit), Xcode tooling, Instruments, and Apple platform fundamentals
– Strong understanding of React Native fundamentals, including bridge/native modules, performance profiling, Hermes, Metro/bundling, OTA, and navigation
– Proven track record of designing reusable component systems, including design tokens, accessibility, theming, and API ergonomics
– Hands-on experience utilizing AI to accelerate coding and productizing AI in-app
– In-depth knowledge of mobile data flows, offline-first sync, error handling, and app state management
– Quality mindset, with experience in unit/UI/e2e testing, monitoring, crash analytics, and metrics/SLOs
– Familiarity with security and privacy principles in healthcare contexts
– Excellent technical communication skills, including design documentation, ADRs, and tradeoff analysis
Nice to Have:
– Experience in digital health or clinical workflows, with knowledge of regulated environments
– Data visualization skills and the ability to communicate uncertainty effectively
– Familiarity with native Android development (Kotlin) or cross-platform build/release expertise
– Previous experience owning design systems or component libraries used across multiple apps/teams
– Experience with on-device ML or efficient edge inference patterns
– Experience in architecting B2B and consumer-facing applications
