Role Description:
LifeStance is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and expand our team of highly skilled software engineers. This position will oversee the development of our core platform, which is crucial for the future of mental health technology.
Responsibilities:

– Be accountable for driving the technical strategy to improve system performance by 20% and reduce infrastructure costs by 15% year-over-year.
– Act as a primary liaison between engineering and other teams such as product, design, and clinical operations.
– Translate business needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
– Establish and maintain engineering standards for observability, performance, and system health.
– Take ownership of critical backend services from design to deployment, ensuring reliability and continuous improvement.
– Implement and enforce best practices for security, access control, and data governance.

Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
– 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 5+ years in an engineering leadership or management role.
– Strong proficiency in building APIs and microservices with Node.js, TypeScript, and modern communication protocols (REST, gRPC, GraphQL).
– Deep understanding of event-driven architectures, serverless computing, and AWS Lambda.
– Extensive, hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms, specifically AWS, including deep knowledge of serverless technologies like AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and Step Functions.
– Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is highly preferred.
– Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD tooling, and observability stacks (e.g., Terraform, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
– Solid foundation in software design, testing strategies, and production resilience.
– Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
– Strong sense of ownership and ability to drive initiatives across teams and domains.

– Extensive, hands-on experience in the healthcare technology domain.
– A deep understanding of healthcare data standards like FHIR is a significant plus.
