Position: Director, Software Engineering (Location Platform) at Life360

Position Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Engineering to lead our Location Platform team within the Location Experiences organization at Life360. This role is crucial in shaping our core location technology and driving innovation to deliver unparalleled value to families worldwide. The Director of Engineering will collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders, aligning engineering initiatives with product and organizational objectives. As a key leader, you will guide the platform’s evolution, ensuring it remains a market leader and empowers families to stay connected, safe, and informed.
Salary Range:
For candidates based in the US, the salary range for this position is $213,500 to $313,500 USD. For candidates based out of Canada, the salary range is $250,500 to $294,500 CAD. The final salary offered will depend on an individual’s background, experience, and geographic location. The compensation package includes a wide range of benefits, such as medical, dental, vision, financial, and equity.
Responsibilities:
– Lead and develop engineering teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
– Own and refine the long-term strategic vision for the location platform, ensuring scalability and technological innovation
– Develop and execute a strategic technology roadmap aligned with business goals and delivering innovative and reliable solutions
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and deliver impactful and user-centric solutions
– Represent the Location Platform engineering team at executive leadership forums, communicating strategic insights, progress, and risks
– Oversee architectural decisions to ensure scalability, security, and maintainability
– Develop and execute a comprehensive talent strategy, including succession planning and leadership development
– Build and manage relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, communicating technical strategies and project milestones
– Influence and shape company-wide initiatives, standards, and best practices
– Champion operational excellence by establishing performance standards and monitoring platform performance
– Foster innovation by promoting experimentation with new technologies and tools
– Contribute to the broader technical community at Life360 by staying informed about industry trends and promoting knowledge sharing and best practices
Qualifications:
Basic:
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
– 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles
– Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments
– Expertise in cloud technologies, mobile development, and familiarity with real-time systems or location-based technologies
Preferred:
– Experience with real-time communication protocols, microservices architecture, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
– Proven track record of successfully leading complex cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, emphasizing data-driven decision-making
